The Gathering of Old Faithfuls
2007 Yellowstone Reunion
Wednesday, July 18th
– Monday, July 23rd
Hi Savages,
While the official dates of the 2007 "Gathering of Old Faithfuls" are
Wednesday, July 18th through Monday, July 23rd, almost everyone who has made
reservations so far has opted to arrive on Tuesday July 17th, a few
on Wednesday the 18th. Arriving earlier and leaving earlier is best for some
folks. We had intended to meet in the Snow Lodge conference room on Friday
the 20th, but have decided to meet on Thursday morning the 19th
instead. This will be our first official get-together, for group
pictures, activity suggestions (group hikes, etc), to distribute directions to
the cookouts, some silly awards no doubt, and fabulous prizes! Well, OK... no
fabulous prizes. We'll have our 1st cookout Thursday evening.
It bears repeating that one can make reservations with Xanterra (
www.travelyellowstone.com
), pay one night's deposit to hold them, and as long as you cancel within 48
hours of arrival, get your deposit back. There is thus little risk to going
ahead and making reservations if you are still on the fence about attending.
Rooms for a 4, 5, or 6 night consecutive stay will be hard to come by in the
Old Faithful area if you wait until a few months prior to the gathering.
Also, Xanterra allocates a portion of the rooms to the website and some to
their telephone reservation system, so if one source doesn't have a desired
room, check the other (Xanterra Reservations
307-344-7311).
We think they hold some rooms back too. One savage was told to check back in
December for her preferred room type. Perhaps you can ask to be put on a
waiting list in case of a cancellation... The early bunch is staying at Snow
Lodge cabins, a few at OF Lodge cabins and a few at the OF Inn. More lodging
and flight details on Deanie's website -
www.yellowstonereunion.com .
There are a number of folks of the single persuasion who would be happy to
share a room and split lodging expenses, so please let me know if that would
be appropriate for you and I will match you up with others. Cindy Unger has
enough camping equipment to outfit a dozen she says, if you want to rough it.
Several folks have volunteered to bring food, wine, supplies, lawn chairs,
even kayaks and canoes! This situation cries out for a new staff position, so
in spite of her adamant protestations and refusals, Cindy (Danielson) St Clair
will be the Planner/Coordinator of the evening gatherings - 2 or 3 cookouts
depending on weather. Please contact Cindy with your ideas and offers to
bring stuff. We won't get serious about such plans until winter/spring when
we'll have a better idea of how many folks will be attending.
We have been quite successful in recent months finding several lost savages:
From Lodge '71 - Patti Bremer Wong
From Lodge '72 - Betty Chmielniak Grace, Mary Lou Hamilton deRoulhac, Mary Ann
McCracken Fly, Mike Sheely, Doug Clawson
From Campers '71 - Cindy Unger, Kent "Torp" Hughes, Linda Leverette, Borden
Ayers, Mary Baker & Norman Hendy, and barely but almost found, Larry Kahn,
Randy Frazee
From Campers '72 - Linda Flynn (Fetterly) Yamas
From Cafeteria '69 - Julia Pniak Sampson
From Cafeteria '70 - Kathy Mayerle Wellborn
From Cafeteria '72 - Leann Sjoden Choley, Dan & Debbie (Emison) Terry
Deanie hopes to find time to post the new foundlings in the next couple weeks
- please bear with us.
Search engine subscriptions since December, 2003 - $3652. Much appreciated
donations $1560. Many thanks!
Please note that Val and I will be gone for a couple weeks on our 30th
anniversary trip - back September 5th.
